Second period rally falls short for Sabre women’s hockey

February 11, 2019

After a slow start, Marian University women’s hockey (5-14-3, 4-9-2 NCHA) cut their deficit down to as little as one before Lake Forest pulled away with a 5-3 win.

The Foresters didn’t get many shots off in the opening period but made them count when they did scoring three goals in the first 11:31 of the game.  A pair of sophomores then lit the lamp in the second period as Katie Meierotto scored her third goal of the season and Jamie Henrickson her second as Marian trailed only 3-2 heading into the final period.

Lake Forest managed to score a pair of goals separated by only 1:18, one of which was on the power play, to extend their lead out to 5-2.  Junior Morgan Bolin would light the lamp for the ninth time this season in the final minute with an assist to freshman Sally Moris to set the final at 5-3.

The Foresters finished with a 38-28 advantage in shots for the game with senior Lindsey Strainis making 33 saves.  Strainis had a strong second period stopping all 23 shots she faced.

The Sabres close out their series with the Foresters tomorrow, Saturday, February 9, at 8 p.m. for senior day.
