Sabres of the Month for October announced

October Sabres of the monthSenior Amber Baker of Marian University women’s volleyball and junior Ian Chacon of Marian men’s soccer have been announced as the Sabres of the Month for October.

Baker (Sussex, Wis.) closed out her career as a Sabre in fine fashion as she helped lead the Sabres to a 6-5 record over the final month of the season.  The setter recorded 366 assists for the month or an 8.32 assists per set average.  She was also second on the squad for the month of October with 114 digs, 2.59 digs per set, and added nine service aces.  Baker had six double-doubles for the month including a 43 assist, 15 dig performance in the season-finale win over Carroll.  The only senior on the 2017 roster closed out her Sabre career ranked second in assists, tied for fifth for service aces and 10th for digs on the Marian all-time lists.

Chacon (Cicero, Ill.) posted a 4-3-0 record for October and helped lead the Sabres to their first NACC Tournament berth since 2010.  The Sabre keeper only allowed 12 goals with a 1.42 goals against average, while also posting an .818 save percentage with 54 saves in nine games.  Chacon allowed one or fewer goals in six of his appearances and had an especially strong finish to his season with a total of 37 saves in the final five games of the year.  He capped off the season being named second team All-NACC, the second time in his career he has been named to an all-conference team.
