WEST DUNDEE, Ill. – Marian University men’s golf improved by four strokes with a 317 team score at the second round of the Tim Kopka Invite to finish 16th.
Illinois Wesleyan rallied after the opening round to earn the team title led by Andrew Abel who tied for the individual title with Matt Meneghetti of Carthage.
Freshman Jake Sherwood once again led the Sabres shooting a 77 to finish with a 153, good for a tie for 24th. Fellow freshman Maxwell Dye shot one shot of his pace to finish 155 and freshman Christian Taylor shot an 81 to finish at 158. Junior Aaron Rick saw a 10-shot increase from his first round shooting an 81. Junior James Mathias closed out the Sabres and improved by nine-shots shooting a second round 85.
Marian next travels to the Midwest Region Invite Sept. 16-17 at the Eagle Ridge South Course in Galena, Ill.
