Marian University women’s volleyball (5-17, 2-7 NACC) fell to CUW in their final home NACC match of the season with set scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-23.
The Sabres recorded 11 kills in all three sets and had their most efficient set come in the opener when they outhit CUW with a .205 attack percentage. The Falcons would benefit from six service aces in the first set, however, to take the opener. The CUW offense took over in the second set to easily take a 2-0 lead, but Marian was able to rally in the third set.
After CUW took a 14-9 advantage, sophomore Nicole Buckley and senior Amber Yahr helped lead Marian to an 11-1 spurt that put the Sabres ahead 20-15. Five of the 11 points came off of kills from junior Erika Horstman. The Falcons rallied, however, closing out the match with a 10-3 run.
Horstman had a break-out match recording a career-high 20 kills off of a .241 hitting percentage. From the back row, sophomore Brooklyn Taylor had a match-high 22 digs, while senior Jenna Skroski added 12 digs. Yahr produced a double-double consisting of 14 digs and 26 assists to go with three service aces.
Marian travels to Concordia Chicago for a 7 p.m. first serve Friday, Oct. 25 in NACC action.
