April 8, 2019

Marian University women’s lacrosse (3-9, 2-7 MWLC) rallied late but fell to Loras by a final score of 18-16.

After junior Maggie Cusey opened the game with a goal, Loras went on to score four unanswered to take a 4-1 lead with 23:51 left in the opening half.  Marian answered right back scoring six of the next seven goals to retake the lead at 7-5 with 9:37 left in the half.  Freshman Sally Moris scored three of the goals during the spurt.  The Duhawks were able to respond scoring four of the final five goals in the half with Loras taking a 9-8 lead with a goal in the final minute.

Loras continued to use their momentum to open the second half scoring nine of the first 12 goals to take an 18-11 lead with just 7:12 left to play.  Marian was then able to score five unanswered goals in the final seven minutes to cut into their deficit but time would run short in the 18-16 loss.  Senior Hailey Miller had three of the five goals including one with just three seconds left in the game.

Marian held a 42-38 advantage in shots for the game and went 6-for-7 on their free position attempts.  Moris paced the offense scoring five goals with two assists to go along with 14 draw controls and three caused turnovers.  Miller also posted a six-point game with five goals and one assist, while sophomore Lindsay Lewison had four goals with one assist.

Junior Molly Gross put together another strong performance in goal making 14 saves on the 32 shots she faced.

Marian opens a four-game road trip at UW-River Falls Saturday, April 13 for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
