March 15, 2021

Marian University women’s lacrosse (0-1, 0-0 NACC) fell to UW-Eau Claire by a 20-10 final in their season opener.

The Sabres and Blugolds traded goals to open the game with junior Bayli Mannek and freshman Nicole Stachon each scoring.  The Blugolds then scored five unanswered goals, however, to take a 7-2 lead.  Marian battled back to cut into that deficit scoring three of the final five goals of the first half and trailed just 9-5 at the break.

The Blugolds took control to open the second half scoring the first four goals of the half to go ahead 13-5.  Freshman Emma Wollangk and Stachon began a rally with back-to-back goals as Marian went on a 5-4 run to trail just 17-10.  UWEC would end any thought of a rally, however, scoring the final three goals of the game.

Mannek and freshman Paige Panagiotopolos each had three goals, while Stachon had a three-point game coming from two goals and an assist.  In goal, freshman Grace Moll made 12 saves for the Sabres.

The Sabres controlled 17 draws to only 15 for UWEC with Stachon grabbing seven and Wollangk six.

Marian is scheduled to travel to Carroll Wednesday, March 31 for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
