Sabre women’s lacrosse defeated by IIT 20-4

CHICAGO – Marian University women’s lacrosse (3-6, 2-4 MWLC) fell to Illinois Tech 20-4 in conference action.

After freshman Sally Moris opened the scoring with the first goal of the game, Illinois Tech scored nine unanswered goals to go ahead 9-1.  Moris added another goal before IIT found the back of the net once more to put the halftime score at 10-2.  The Sabres scored two of the first three goals to open the second half with senior Hailey Miller scoring, assist to freshman Bayli Mannek, and junior Lindsay Lewison scoring a free position shot.  The goals cut the Marian deficit down to seven but the Scarlet Hawks would score nine unanswered goals to close out the game.

Moris closed out the game with seven ground balls to go with three draw controls and five caused turnovers, while senior Jill Schneider also had four ground balls.  Junior Molly Gross made seven saves in each half to finish with 14 stops on 34 shots.

Marian is scheduled to travel to Beloit Wednesday, March 27 for a 6 p.m. start in MWLC action.
