December 10, 2018

Marian University women’s hockey (3-8-2, 2-4-2 NCHA) closed out the first half of the season falling to Augsburg by a 6-3 final.

The Auggies would open the scoring with a pair of goals in the first 4:57 of the game before senior Abbey Dokken lit the lamp for the second time this season.  The goal was unassisted and came just 28 seconds after the second Augsburg goal.  Augsburg closed out the period with another goal to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Augsburg was able to open the scoring in the second period to take a 4-1 advantage but junior Morgan Bolin was able to cut the lead in half at the 12:32 mark to give Marian momentum.  Senior Hailey Miller assisted the goal and helped Marian open fast in the third period.

The Sabres would cut the deficit down to one at 4-3 after a power play goal from Bolin at the 6:22 mark.  The goal was her second of the game and fifth on the season and came with an assist from senior Alexis Peterson.

Marian would get into penalty trouble late in the game allowing Augsburg to pull away with a pair of late power play goals to set the final at 6-3.

Senior Lindsey Strainis made 33 saves in the defeat making 15 saves in the opening period and 13 saves in the second.  Junior Ally Fox, freshman Leah Roames, Dokken and Bolin all had three shots on goal to lead the offense.

Marian returns to action Friday, January 4 taking on Saint Benedict from UW-Stevens Point.
