Sabre women’s hockey falls in finale with Aurora

Marian University women’s hockey (5-13-3, 4-8-2 NCHA) suffered a 6-2 loss to Aurora to close out the series.

The Spartans took a 4-0 lead on the Sabres scoring three goals in a span of 7:24 in the second period.  Junior Ally Fox started a rally for Marian with a shorthanded goal, her fourth of the season, with an assist to senior Alexis Peterson.

Aurora would score an empty net goal to extend their lead before Marian lit the lamp on the power play with an extra attacker.  Junior Morgan Bolin scored the goal, her eighth of the year, with assists to Peterson and senior Abbey Dokken.  The Spartans then scored one final empty net goal to set the final at 6-2.

The Sabre offense led in shots all three periods finishing with a 41-25 advantage.  Senior Lindsey Strainis (4-12-3) made 13 saves in goal, while sophomore Lindsay Lewison made six saves in 16:07 of action without allowing a goal.

Marian opens their final weekend at home hosting Lake Forest Friday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. from Blue Line.
