Marian University women’s basketball (4-18, 4-13 NACC) fell to Alverno 73-62 to close out the season series.

After a three-pointer from freshman Madison Holdiman made the game 12-11 with 3:08 left in the first quarter, the Inferno were able to score nine unanswered points to take a 21-11 lead into the first stoppage.  The two squads traded baskets for most of the second quarter before another 8-0 from Alverno allowed them to take a 37-25 lead into halftime.

The Sabres came out strong in the third quarter cutting their deficit down to only seven points within the first four minutes of the third quarter.  Alverno was able to answer building their lead back out to 12 points entering the final quarter.  Marian would chip away at the Inferno lead for most of the final quarter but couldn’t find an extended run to overcome their early deficit leading to the 73-62 final.

Sophomore Paris Harris came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points, while Holdiman chipped in 12 and fellow freshman Claire Levendoski added 11 points.  Holdiman nearly missed a double-double grabbing nine boards to go with four assists, while senior Morgan Johnson also nearly had a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds, four of which were offensive.

Marian travels to Concordia Wis. Saturday, Feb. 15 for a 2 p.m. tip in NACC action.
