Sabre women’s basketball rallies but falls to Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Marian University women’s basketball outscored Dominican 23-14 in the fourth quarter but fell to the Stars by a final of 61-54.
Marian led after the first quarter by a score of 14-12 but the Stars rallied in the second quarter to take a 24-21 lead into halftime. Dominican then added to their lead in the third quarter outscoring the Sabres by a 23-10 margin before the MU rally fell short.
Marian opened the game scoring the first seven points but the Stars opened the second half with a 16-4 run as they built their lead to as large as 20 in the third quarter.
Each team had similar shooting percentages as the Sabres went 33.3-percent from the field and the Stars shot 34.5-percent. Marian outrebounded Dominican 42-41 and outscored the Stars in the paint by a 30-26 margin.
Junior Rachel Serchen shot 9-18 (.500) from the field, including 3-5 (.600) from beyond the arc, as she had a breakout game with a career-best 27 points. Fellow junior Christina Jagiello also had a good game with 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks.
Marian closes out a three-game road trip traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran Wednesday, Feb. 7 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
