MILWAUKEE – Marian University women’s basketball (1-4, 1-1 NACC) played well defensively but couldn’t get the offense going in a 43-36 loss at MSOE.
Only three field goals were made in the opening quarter showing what kind of defensive battle the game would be. A three-pointer from freshman Whittney Jackson served as the only points for the Sabres who trailed 6-3 after one quarter. Both offenses had a strong second quarter with Marian managing to tie the game at 20-20 heading into halftime. An 8-0 Sabre stretch during the quarter proved to be the difference.
MSOE opened with a 7-2 lead to open the third quarter and took the lead for good. The Sabres managed to cut their deficit down to as little as three in the final minute but were unable to reach any closer.
The Sabre defense held MSOE to 27.1-percent shooting from the field and forced 23 turnovers. Freshman Alyssen Noriega led Marian with a team-high 10 points, while sophomore Paris Harris had nine points with nine defensive rebounds.
Marian returns to Sadoff Gym Tuesday, Dec. 3 to take on Rockford for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
