Marian University women’s volleyball (4-9, 1-2 NACC) was swept by Benedictine with set scores of 25-17, 25-10 and 25-19 to open a weekend of NACC play.
Marian had a difficult time slowing down the offense of Benedictine that hit .282 including a .406 hitting percentage in the match-clinching third set. The Eagles offense also had a big game from the service line with 11 aces, while the BenU front row blocked eight Marian attacks.
The Sabres managed to hang around at the beginning of each set but the Eagles used extended runs at the back end of each set to put MU away.
Senior Amber Baker had a double-double with 13 assists and 14 digs to lead MU. Sophomore Natalie Orre also had double-digit digs in the back row with 11, while freshman Cheyenne Henson had six kills to pace the offense.
The Sabres close out the weekend at noon tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 30, when they welcome Aurora to Sadoff Gym.
