Marian University softball (13-11, 5-5 NACC) suffered a sweep at Concordia Wisconsin falling 6-4 and 16-6 in five innings.
Marian led for most of the opening game against the Falcons but a late CUW rally lifted them past the Sabres. Marian took the lead immediately in the top of the first off of an RBI single from sophomore Peyton Loesch. Loesch was able to extend on the Marian lead with an RBI single in the third and a two-run homer in the fifth, her second of the season.
Concordia Wisconsin was able to cut the Marian lead in half in the sixth inning before three home runs in the seventh gave the Falcons a 6-4 walk-off win.
Loesch was the lone Sabre with a multi-hit game going 3-for-3 with a run scored and four driven in, while senior Lindsey Strainis went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks.
The Sabres once again started the game fast but Concordia Wisconsin would score multiple runs in all four innings to secure the sweep. Junior Taylor Lauscher opened the scoring driving in fellow junior Ally Fox before sophomore Katy Croeker hit a two-run homer, her second of the year.
A wild pitch in the third was able to score Fox and RBI singles from freshman Andrea Meagher and Strainis in the fourth closed out the scoring for the Sabres. Strainis and Fox each had multi-hit games at the top of the Marian lineup with Fox scoring a pair of runs.
Marian is scheduled to host Alverno Sunday, April 14 for a noon doubleheader in NACC action as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Day at Smith Field.
