Marian University men’s volleyball (1-7, 1-1 NACC) played tight with No. 9 Benedictine but fell to the Eagles with set scores of 25-23, 25-27, 25-19, and 25-23.
The teams looked evenly matched throughout the match with three of the four sets being decided by the minimum of two points. The defenses for both sides played especially strong with only one set seeing either team have a hitting percentage above .200, the fourth set for Benedictine.
At the net, Marian recorded 15 blocks on the night with freshman Liam Skinner recording 10 block assists and one solo block. Also on the defensive end, senior Cullen Liberski finished with a match-high 27 digs.
The Sabres had a pair of double-doubles in the defeat with senior Jon Smallpage recording a match-high 18 kills to go with 14 digs, and fellow senior Joey Dittman assisted on 36 Sabre kills to go with 12 digs.
Marian hits the road for Illinois Tech Friday, February 15 with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m. in NACC action.
