MONMOUTH, Ill. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (2-6, 0-1 MLC) led 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter but fell to Monmouth 9-8 in overtime.
The Scots took the early lead after scoring four goals in the first quarter. Jeremy Eisele found the back of the net twice in the opening stanza, the second assisted by Nick Klotz, as Marian trailed 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
It was in the second quarter where Marian found their offensive groove as they knotted the game at 5-5 heading into halftime. Nick Klotz, Eisele and Landen Macco all scored unassisted goals in the quarter, respectively.
Garrett Houlihan then paced the offense in the third quarter scoring three unassisted goals to give the Sabres an 8-6 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Scots battled back in the final quarter, however, scoring a pair of man-up goals to force overtime. Monmouth completed the comeback scoring with just 3:17 left in overtime to take home the win.
In goal, Gavin Taquino faced 23 shots making 14 saves for a 60.9-percent save percentage.
Marian plays their first home game in program history Wednesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. taking on Cornell.
