Sabre men’s hockey topped by Lake Forest

November 14, 2017

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – A slow start would be too much to overcome for Marian University men’s hockey (1-2-0, 1-2-0 NCHA) who fell to Lake Forest by a 3-1 final.

Senior Braden Crone would score his second goal of the season at the 15:54 mark with an assist to sophomore Lonnie Clary as part of the best offensive period of the night for the Sabres.  MU would skate with LFC to an 11-11 draw in shots but the Foresters came out fast in the opening two periods as they outshot Marian 27-13.

Sophomore Hunter Vorva (1-2-0) stopped 24 of the initial 27 shots and held Lake Forest scoreless in the final period for a total of 35 saves.

The Marian penalty kill held LFC scoreless on five opportunities putting their success rate at 8-11 (.846) for the season.  The Sabre power play unit was held scoreless for the second consecutive game as they were unable to light the lamp on four opportunities.

Crone along with sophomore Shawn Brennan paced the Marian offense with four shots on goal.

Marian closes out the weekend at Aurora tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 11, with a 3 p.m. puck drop.
