DE PERE, Wis. – Marian University men’s hockey (10-13-3, 5-10-2-1 NCHA) was defeated by No. 7 St. Norbert 6-1 in the first game of the NCHA Harris Cup quarterfinals.
The first period saw a lot of defense with the Green Knights scoring a power-play goal as the only score of the period. Marian responded just 32 seconds into the second period with freshman Jordan Simoneau scoring a power-play goal himself. Seniors Blaine Caton and Gianni Vitali were each able to earn assists. St. Norbert then scored at the midway point of the second period to start a streak of five unanswered goals to set the final at 6-1.
The Sabres were outshot 43-19 for the game and were held to just one power-play goal on eight opportunities. Junior Colby Muise (9-12-3) earned the loss making 32 saves, while sophomore Aaron Brunn closed out the game making five saves in 7:05 of action.
Marian closes out the series tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. needing a win to force a mini-game.
