March 8, 2021

In a clean game that saw zero penalties, Marian University men’s hockey (6-7-0, 4-3-0 NCHA) dropped the series opener to CUW by a 3-1 final.

Each team found the back of the net once in the first four minutes of the opening period with the Falcons striking first.  Freshman Mateo Albinati was able to tie the game at the 3:52 mark with his fourth goal of the season.  The Falcons held a slim lead in shots for the period at 12-8.  Marian was able to outshoot CUW in the second period by a 7-4 margin, but the Falcons were able to retake the lead at the 11:32 mark.  Concordia Wisconsin was able to add an empty-net goal in the final minutes to seal the 3-1 win.

Marian was outshot 25-24 in the defeat with sophomore Colby Muise (5-4-0) making 22 saves on the night.

Marian hosts CUW to close out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, March 6, for a 4 p.m. puck drop.  The Sabres need at least one point to clinch the No. 2 seed in the NCHA North and host the opening round of the NCHA Harris Cup playoffs.
