Sabre men’s hockey drops 5-4 nail biter to No. 8 Adrian

November 11, 2019

Marian University men’s hockey (2-1-0, 1-1-0 NCHA) settled for a split against No. 8 Adrian falling to the Bulldogs 5-4 in the finale of their series.

The Sabres opened the scoring for the game when freshman Ty Enns lit the lamp for the second time in as many days with an assist to junior Dylan Hutton at the 5:21 mark.  The Bulldogs had an answer later in the period to send the two squads into the first break knotted at 1.

Adrian then scored a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead with the second tally coming on the power play.  Sophomore Nathan Walker cut the Marian deficit to one with his second goal of the season, assists to fellow sophomores Blaine Caton and Salvatore Scalise, with just 1:07 left in the period.

The third period saw Adrian score another power-play goal just 49 seconds into the period and added to their lead midway through the stanza.  The Sabre rally began when freshman Daylan Marchi scored his first-career goal at the 13:44 mark, assist to Enns.  Marian was able to make things interesting with an extra attacker goal in the final minute from Caton, his second of the season.  Caton was assisted by seniors Clay Cross and Davis Ross.  The Sabres continued to push with an extra attacker but were unable to force overtime.

The Sabres finished with a 28-26 advantage in shots with senior Hunter Vorva (1-1-0) suffering the loss after making 21 stops.  Senior Conner Blanck led the way for Marian sending four shots on goal.

Marian remains at home to take on Lake Forest Friday, Nov. 15 for an 8 p.m. puck drop in NCHA action.
