Marian University men’s basketball (3-17, 2-13 NACC) closed out the season series with Rockford falling to the Regents 88-77.
The Sabres bounced back after Rockford jumped out to an 11-3 lead with an 18-5 spurt that saw the Sabres take a 21-16 advantage. Marian would hold onto the lead out to a 32-27 tally with 3:52 left in the half before the two squads went back-and-forth the remaining of the half. The Regents would score five of the final seven points in the half to go into the break ahead 40-39.
Rockford once again had a strong start in the second half extending their lead out to 52-44 after a 12-5 start. The Sabres would cut the deficit down to as little as four after a three-pointer from sophomore Dylan Gmeiner at 68-64 with 4:41 in the game, but the Regents responded with eight unanswered points to pull away from Marian.
Junior Justin Wilson led the way for Marian with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Senior Trentin Fouse chipped in 10 points after going 3-6 (.500) from beyond the arc.
Marian returns to action Saturday, Feb. 8 traveling to Edgewood for a 2 p.m. tip.
