Sabre men’s basketball falls to Edgewood 93-77 after slow start

Marian University men’s basketball (1-2, 0-2 NACC) suffered a sweep at the hands of Edgewood after dropping the series finale 93-77.

The Sabres were able to get out to a strong start after a tough loss the night before and led 14-13 with 13:52 left in the first half.  The Eagles then went on a 24-5 run to take a 37-19 advantage with just over six minutes left in the half, while also drawing a Marian timeout.  Edgewood would manage to extend their lead out to as large as 25 and led at the break 55-30.

The two squads were able to go back-and-forth for most of the second half, but the Sabres were able to have a strong finish to the game with an 8-2 run in the final minutes.  The Sabres were able to outscore the Eagles in the final stanza by a 47-38 margin.

The Sabres had one of their best offensive halves of the season in the second shooting 20-31 (.645) from the field.

Junior David Britton had a strong showing with a game-high 31 points to go with five assists.  Fellow junior Scott Paulus added 14 points off the bench for the Sabres.

Marian hits the road for the first time traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran Friday, Feb. 5 for a 7 p.m. tip.
