Sabre men’s basketball falls late to CUW 66-56

MEQUON, Wis. – Marian University men’s basketball (2-5, 1-5 NACC) settled for a split in the season series with CUW after falling 66-56 in the series finale.
The game opened as a tight affair with neither team leading by more than three points and eventually settled at a 15-15 draw. CUW then went on a 10-2 run to take the first major lead of the game at 25-17 with 5:16 left in the first half. The Falcons were able to hold onto this advantage the remainder of the half and went into the break ahead 30-23.
Marian had a strong response in the opening minutes of the second half going on a 15-5 spurt to go ahead 38-35 with 15:15 left in the game. Both squads then battled back-and-forth leading up to a 46-46 stalemate before the Falcons took a comfortable lead with an 11-2 run. The Sabres would be unable to cut into this deficit as the Falcons held on for a 66-56 final.
Junior David Britton paced the Sabre offense once again scoring 17 points, while senior DeAndre Ross added 12 points. Junior Scott Paulus continued to be a factor down low grabbing a season-high 11 rebounds.
Marian opens a four-game home stretch Friday, Feb. 19 against MSOE with tip scheduled for 7 p.m.
