DECATUR, Ill. – Marian University baseball (0-1, 0-0 NACC) fell to Millikin in their season opener by a 3-0 final in non-conference action.
The Sabres had an opportunity to score first in the top of the fourth with three-consecutive singles after a quick two outs, but Marian wasn’t able to cash in with a fourth-straight hit. Junior Noah Imrie was perfect through the first four innings, but a one-out double in the fifth from Millikin sparked a two-run inning to give the Big Blue the first lead of the game.
Marian was once again able to get a runner in scoring position in the seventh but couldn’t find a clutch two-out hit. The top of the eighth looked promising for the Sabres as the first two hitters were able to reach but Marian still couldn’t get anyone across home. Millikin was able to add an insurance run in the eighth as the Sabres would fall 3-0.
Imrie (0-1) had a strong outing going 6.0 innings allowing just two runs off four hits. Fellow junior Taylor Middaugh tossed the final 2.0 innings and allowed just one earned run. Freshman Robbie Knorr was the lone Sabre hitter with multiple hits going 2-4.
The Sabres close out their series with the Big Blue tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 28, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
