WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. – Marian University women’s basketball (1-1, 0-0 NACC) fell to Ripon to open the Webster Tip Off by a final of 89-35.
The Sabres had their best quarter come in the second when MU scored 16 points shooting 50-percent from the field with senior Brandi Bender making a pair of three-pointers. Bender tallied nine points in the quarter shooting 3-5 (.600) from the field.
The Ripon defense was the story of the game, however, as they forced 35 Sabre turnovers, which translated into 38 points for the Red Hawks. The Red Hawks would also finish the game shooting 31-71 (.437) from the field.
Bender had another strong performance for Marian with a team-high 18 points with a pair of steals. Junior Rachel Serchen led the Sabres down low grabbing five rebounds and adding an assist.
Marian closes out their trip to Webster taking on Fontbonne tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m.
