Sophomore Gianni Vitali of Marian University men’s hockey and senior Morgan Bolin of Marian University women’s hockey have been named the Sabres of the Month for January.
Vitali (Grand Rapids, Mich.) paced the Sabres with 12 points over seven games leading Marian to a 5-2-0 record in January including a perfect 4-0-0 mark at home. Vitali had a team-high five goals during the month and added seven assists. The forward opened the month with his third multi-goal game as part of a three-point game in a 5-1 against St. Scholastica. He also posted a season-high four-point game in the series opener with Concordia Wisconsin with all of his points being assists. Vitali leads the Sabres in scoring with 14 goals on the year to go with 12 assists for 26 total points. He also sits atop the national leaderboard with four short-handed scores.
Bolin (Cary, Ill.) had her best month of the season and moved into second on the all-time Marina scoring list during the month of January. Bolin had a hand in every Marian goal during the month as part of an eight-point month over six games with five goals and three assists. In the opener at Northland, a 3-1 Marian win, she had her best game of the season posting her first multi-goal game of the year with an assist for three points. She also had a multi-point game in the opener against St. Norbert scoring a goal and assisting another. For her career, Bolin now has 49 total points scoring 32 times with 17 assists.
Marian men’s hockey opens a home-and-home with Lawrence Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m., while the Sabre women’s hockey team is on the road at Aurora Feb. 7-8.
