October 31, 2016

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – No. 15 Marian University men’s hockey (0-2-0, 0-2-0 NCHA) hung tight with No. 2 St. Norbert for 40 minutes, but a five goal third period led the Green Knights to a 7-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association win.

The Green Knights netted a goal in the first period and second period, but Marian was able to build momentum and skated with SNC.  The Sabres especially played well in the second period outshooting the Green Knights 12-4 with eight of their shots coming on the power play.

SNC bounced back in the third period, however, outshooting Marian 15-8 scoring a pair of power play goals and an empty netter.

The Marian power play was able to create scoring chances but was unable to find the back of the net going 0-9 with a man advantage.  The Green Knights power play netted three of their goals as SNC was 3-10 on the power play.

Senior defenseman Derek Perl had a game-high five shots on goal, while senior goaltender Mike Baldwin made 20 saves on the 26 shots he faced.

Marian returns to the  ice Friday, Nov. 4 when the Sabres host Lawrence at 7 p.m. for their annual Military Appreciation Night.
