ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 14 Marian University men’s hockey (5-2-1, 4-0-0 NCHA) skated to a 1-1 tie on the road at Saint John’s (Minn.).
The Sabres managed to get on the board just 2:24 into the game when senior Nick Monfils lit the lamp for the fourth time this season. His goal was unassisted and proved to be the only tally the Sabres would manage.
Saint John’s (Minn.) answered the goal with an early second period goal but from there the defenses prevailed. At the end of regulation, each team would only have 19 shots on goal with the Johnnies finishing with a 24-22 advantage.
Junior Hunter Vorva (4-1-1) looked strong once again in net for the Sabres making 23 saves in the tie. Monfils finished the game with a team-best four shots, while senior James Mathias added three shots. Freshman Parker Colley won 10 of 18 faceoffs.
