No. 14 Marian men’s hockey shuts out Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. – No. 14 Marian University men’s hockey (6-2-1, 5-0-0 NCHA) earned their first shutout of the season defeating Finlandia 2-0.

Senior Nick Monfils continued his strong start to the season scoring his fifth goal of the season at the 5:00 mark on the power play.  Fellow senior Lane Valimont assisted the goal for what proved to be all Marian would need.

Senior Jake Howie sealed the win with his third goal of the season at the 14:52 mark of the third period with an assist to junior Conner Blanck.

The Sabres and Lions each had 31 shots on goal in the game with sophomore Dylan Hutton sending a game-high five shots on goal.  Junior Hunter Vorva posted his first shutout of the season and stood on his head making 31 saves, 12 of which came in the final period.

The Marian penalty kill had another strong night holding the Lions scoreless on six power plays.

Marian closes out the weekend traveling to No. 3 St. Norbert for a 7 p.m. puck drop tomorrow, Saturday, December 1.
