BLAINE, Minn. – No. 14 Marian University men’s hockey (5-2-0, 4-0-0 NCHA) scored three goals in the opening period en route to a 6-2 road win at Bethel.
Freshman Parker Colley opened the scoring for the game at the 9:25 mark of the first period and then added a second goal at the 16:48 mark for his second and third goal of the year. Senior James Mathias scored his first goal of the year between the Colley goals at the 12:01 mark with assists to freshman Nathan Walker and Salvatore Scalise. Freshman Yuri Chernichko assisted both Colley goals, while senior Nick Monfils earned an assist on the first goal.
Monfils then lit the lamp for the third time this season to put Marian ahead 4-0 to open the second period while the Sabres were on the power play. Junior Conner Blanck found the back of the net at the 12:27 mark which came just 23 seconds after Bethel scored their first goal. Seniors Lane Valimont and Jake Howie each had an assist in the second period.
The Sabres had double-digit shots in all three periods and went on to outshoot the Royals 36-20 led by a game-high five shots from Blanck. Walker, Colley, and fellow freshman Blaine Caton all added four shots.
Senior Jack Romanuik (1-1-0) earned his first victory in a Sabre sweater making 18 saves in goal.
Marian closes out the weekend with another MIAC opponent in Saint John’s (Minn.) tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 24, at 4 p.m.
