Marian University men’s hockey (1-1-0, 1-1-0 NCHA) started strong but couldn’t hold off No. 1/2 Adrian in a 5-0 home loss.
The Marian penalty kill held Adrian to only one goal on five opportunities including an extended 5-on-3 when the Sabres were assessed three penalties in a span of 1:48 in the second period. The Bulldogs lone power play goal would come at the end of that extended power play with only 11-seconds left to kill.
The Sabres skated evenly with the Bulldogs in the opening period with sophomore Hunter Vorva making 17 saves in goal for Marian. Vorva finished the game with 39 saves as he took the loss for MU.
A span of 7:11 in the middle of the second period is where Adrian made their move scoring four of their five goals. Adrian extended on their lead with a goal at the 12:46 mark of the third.
Senior Braden Crone led the offense with four shots as the Sabres totaled 18 shots in the loss.
Marian returns to action Friday, Nov. 10 when the Sabres travel to Lake Forest for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
