No. 12/13 Marian University men’s hockey (4-0-0, 4-0-0 NCHA) defeated Aurora 4-1 after holding the Spartans to just 18 shots on goal.
The Sabres started things off quickly once again when junior Conner Blanck was able to light the lamp with an assist to senior Jake Howie just 2:50 into the game for his second goal of the game. The Spartans answered just 2:52 later, but the Sabres would take the lead for good later in the period.
Junior Lawson MacDonald was able to bury a rebound into the back of the net, assists senior Nick Monfils and junior Brock Weston, which proved to be the game-winner at the 15:42 mark of the first. The goal was his first of the season and capped off a period where Marian outshot Aurora 11-6.
The second period saw the only power play goal of the game when freshman Parker Colley netted his first-career goal with assists to Monfils and freshman Salvatore Scalise. Another freshman was able to net his first-career goal in the third period when Yuri Chernichko closed out the scoring with assists to Colley and Monfils.
The Sabres finished with a 33-18 advantage in shots for the game led by Blanck who sent six shots on goal. Junior Hunter Vorva (4-0-0) made 17 saves in the victory and helped stave off all nine Aurora power play opportunities.
In the faceoff circle, junior Chris Deprez went 10-3 for the game.
Marian plays their first non-conference game Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. from Blue Line when the Sabres take on UW-Stevens Point who is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation.
