Tyler McLaughlinTyler McLaughlin has been promoted to lead both the Marian University men’s and women’s golf programs announced director of athletics Jason Bartelt Thursday.

“I am excited to introduce Ty McLaughlin as the next coach of our men’s and women’s golf programs,” commented Bartelt. “Ty was a strong contributor in the rebirth of the men’s golf program and has been highly instrumental in recruiting new talent to both programs. It is an exciting time for the Sabre golfers and I couldn’t be more proud to have coach McLaughlin at the helm.”

McLaughlin spent last season as the assistant coach for both programs and controlled all aspects of recruiting. The men’s golf program went on to have the second lowest stroke average in program history at 79.5 and shot the 11th lowest round in Marian history with a 303 at the WLC Spring Invite, where MU edged out Lake Forest by one stroke to win the invite. The men’s golf program was also in first place after the first two rounds of the NACC Championship. The women’s golf program saw success as well and had the second lowest stroke average in program history at 98.3.

“I’m extremely excited and honored to have the opportunity to coach both programs,” commented McLaughlin. “After working as an assistant last year, I feel I’m in a very good place to continue shaping our teams into championship caliber programs. The future is very bright for us and I look forward to getting the seasons started.”

McLaughlin was a leader for the Sabre golf program from 2012 to 2016 and was the lone senior on the 2015-16 roster. That 2015-16 squad went on to win the Marian Invite closing out the invite with a team score of 305. MU also went on to finish fourth at the NACC Championship that season where McLaughlin shot the best round of his career in the final round with a three-over par 75.
