Marian’s School of Business holds awards ceremony

The School of Business at Marian University recognized outstanding performance at its annual Awards Ceremony in Dorcas Chapel on April 20.

The program opened with the induction of new members into Sigma Beta Delta (SBD), the international honor society in business, management, and administration. SBD was established to encourage and recognize scholarship and to promote personal and professional improvement and honorable service in business.

Inducted as an Honorary member of Sigma Beta Delta was David Boelter of Fond du Lac, Wis., Executive Director of The ARC Fond du Lac.

Other awards were also presented during the program:

Erroll B. Davis Minority Achievement Award. The Erroll B. Davis Fund was created in 2006 by the Alliant Energy Foundation in honor of Mr. Erroll B. Davis Jr. and his years of leadership and service to the utility industry. The award is presented jointly by Alliant Energy Foundation and The Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU). Presenting the 2017 Erroll B. Davis Award for Minority Achievement were Steve Weston, Senior Manager of Customer Operations for Alliant Energy, and Dr. Carole Trone, Senior Vice President for Educational Services from WAICU. The 2017 Davis award was presented to Rachel Espitia of Kewaskum, Wis., a senior with majors in Business Administration and Human Resources.

Economics Wisconsin Award-Stock Market Simulation Competition. Two Marian teams received awards in the College Division for successfully managing a stock market portfolio. 2nd Place: Michael Baldwin of Waukesha, Wis.; Justin Cooke of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada; and Niles Owen of Linden, Mich. 3rd Place: Daniel Heerhold of Somonauk, Ill.; Shannon Morris of Fond du Lac, Wis.; and Nicholas Weinberger of Mayville, Wis.

Financial Executives International (FEI). Two students were recognized for outstanding achievement by the Northeast Wisconsin chapter of FEI: Michael Baldwin of Waukesha, Wis.; and Justin Cooke of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.

Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Educations Foundation Scholarship (WICPA). Sponsored by the WICPA, the Educational Foundation’s scholarship is presented to a limited number of Wisconsin students. Shannon Morris of Fond du Lac, Wis. was one of only four students outside the UW system in this year’s scholarship recipients.

Peregrine Academic Service Award. The Peregrine Test of the Common Professional Core of Knowledge in Business is completed by graduating seniors. It provides a comprehensive examination of the knowledge of core concepts in the fields of business and technology.  Recognition was given to graduating seniors who scored in the top 20% nationally. Students recognized were: Michael Baldwin of Waukesha, Wis.; Alexis Brekke of Plover, Wis.; Jose Claros of  Bogota, Columbia; Joshua Fenner of Omro, Wis.; Joseph Hohmann of Mayville, Wis.; Brodie Jamieson of N. Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada; Andrew Krause of Chilton, Wis.; Jessica Meluch of Naperville, Ill.; Scott Milnthorp of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Kari Moncher of Fond du Lac, Wis.; April Schmidt of Appleton, Wis.; Angela Seyfert of Fond du Lac, Wis.; and Tyler Thompson of Menasha, Wis.

Business & Industry (B&I) Scholarships. Proceeds from the B&I Awards Banquet held each fall, at which Marian recognizes outstanding Wisconsin individuals and organizations, are used to fund B&I Scholarships. Recipients of B&I Scholarships for 2016-2017 are Albert Benish of Friesland, Wis.; Denisa Muntean of Timisoara, Romania; Shannon Morris of Fond du Lac, Wis.; Marly Thao of Sheboygan, Wis.

Students of the Year.  The School recognizes outstanding academic achievement and leadership shown by students. Michael Baldwin of Waukesha, Wis., a double major in Accounting and Finance, was recognized as the overall Outstanding School of Business Student of the Year.  Students recognized for outstanding performance in their specialty area were: Accounting Student of the Year Kelli Bahls of Oshkosh, Wis.; Business Administration Student of the Year Kari Moncher of Fond du Lac, Wis.; Finance Student of the Year Justin Cooke of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada; Healthcare Administration Student of the Year Alexis Brekke of Plover, Wis.; Information Technology Student of the Year Adam Wilkens of Kohler, Wis.; Management Student of the Year Brodie Jamieson of N. Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada; Marketing Student of the Year Melissa Spannbauer of Saint Louis, Mo.; Sport & Recreation Management Student of the Year Scott Milnthorp of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and Adult Undergraduate Student of the Year Megan Steiner of Fond du Lac, Wis.

Special Student Recognition Award for Entrepreneurship. Ryonen Faris of Fond du Lac, Wis. who opened the award-winning restaurant 11:11 Burgers and Beignets in January of 2015 on Main Street in Fond du Lac, while being a full-time student, was recognized for entrepreneurship.

Leadership Awards.  Student club and organization leadership was recognized.  The Business Club Leadership Award was presented to Alexis Brekke of Plover, Wis.; Model United Nations Head Delegate Awards were presented for their team leadership at conferences to Delphine Gras of Viarmes, France; Austin Kultgen of Glenbeulah, Wis.; Denisa Muntean of Timisoara, Romania; and Ryan Wagner of Malone, Wis.
