RIPON, Wis. – Marian University women’s volleyball (3-7, 2-6 NACC) closed out their spring season defeating Ripon 25-23, 25-23, and 25-18.
A 5-0 run from the Red Hawks gave Ripon the first significant lead of the opening set, but Marian responded with six unanswered points of their own to go up 16-14. The set would be tied at 23-23 before Marian was able to score the final two points of the set to take the opener 25-23.
The Sabres jumped all over Ripon to start the second set scoring the first 10 points. Marian brought out their lead to 19-11 before an 11-4 run brought Ripon to within one point at 23-22. The Red Hawks were able to turn away the first set-point opportunity for the Sabres, but a kill from sophomore Caelan Tourdot put Marian ahead 2-0.
Marian had another strong start in set three leading 10-6 to open. Ripon was able to cut their deficit down to 18-15 before Marian closed out the sweep with a strong 7-3 run.
Sophomore Monica Dreifuerst posted a double-double recording 16 kills with 15 digs to lead the Sabres. Fellow sophomore Reagan Brown posted 19 digs to lead the Marian back row. Freshman Anna Tapia posted 29 assists with three service aces, while fellow freshman Kaitlyn Merrill had four assisted blocks.
