Marian women’s soccer wins home opener 2-0 against WLC

Marian University women’s soccer (2-2-0, 2-2-0 NACC) defeated WLC 2-0 in their first home game of the season.

The Sabres dominated early and were able to convert a goal at the 18:36 mark when sophomore Ashley Welk collected a blocked shot and chipped a shot over the WLC keeper.  The goal capped off a half that saw Marian outshoot the Warriors 13-4.

The second half saw Marian continue to control to the pace of the game with Welk scoring her second goal at the 65:43 mark.  Welk received a pass from freshman Lillian Giron and snuck a shot inside the right post for what proved to be the last goal of the game.

Marian finished with a 24-6 advantage in shots with Welk leading the way with seven shots, three on goal.  Junior Kylie Lange (2-2-0) earned her first shutout of the season stopping all three shots she faced.

Marian will next travel to Alverno Wednesday, April 7 for a 4 p.m. kick-off.
