Marian University women’s soccer (7-9-0, 4-5-0 NACC) shutout Wisconsin Lutheran 6-0 to remain in contention for a NACC Tournament spot.
The Sabres started fast scoring a pair of goals separated by only 19 seconds inside the first five minutes of the match. Freshman Olivia Meerdink opened the scoring with an assist to senior Reilly Louko for her 14th goal of the year before sophomore Alicia Balken netted her eighth goal of the year, also with an assist to Louko.
Marian continued to push on the offensive end and scored three more goals in the first half. Senior Alexis Peterson, Louko, and freshman Kylie Hanley would be the goal scorers for the Sabres, respectively, while Meerdink, freshman Meghan Batzner, and sophomore Shannon Coughlin each had an assist.
The five Marian goals would come off of just 13 shots with the Sabre defense holding the Warriors to only two shots in the opening stanza, neither of which were on goal.
Peterson scored one more time to close out the scoring for her second goal of the game and eighth of the season in the 63rd minute.
The Sabres finished with 24 shots in the win, 14 of which were on goal, led by Peterson who had eight shots. Freshman Amy Birner (3-3-0) earned the win for the Sabres in goal, while senior Danielle Deltgen recorded a pair of saves in the second half.
Marian hits the road Saturday, Oct. 20 for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Benedictine.
