MADISON, Wis. – Marian University women’s soccer (8-9-1, 5-5-1 NACC) tied with Edgewood 2-2 to earn a bid into the NACC Tournament for a second consecutive year.
The Sabres would trail twice in the second half but rallied both times to earn a point in the NACC standings. The opening half proved to be scoreless with Marian holding an 11-8 advantage before both offenses found a grove in the second stanza.
Edgewood opened the scoring with a tally in the 54th minute before senior Karissa Preston sent a free kick to the upper-90 for her second goal of the year at the 63:07 mark to tie the game. The tie didn’t last long, however, as the Eagles found the back of the net just 17-seconds later.
Senior Alexis Peterson then found herself with an empty net near the right post at the 73:27 mark and buried her eighth goal of the year. The second half was mostly dominated by Marian with the Sabres outshooting the Eagles 12-6.
The Eagles managed to outshoot the Sabres 5-3 in the extra periods of action, but neither squad found the back of the net leading to the tie.
Freshman Amy Birner stopped three shots as she earned the tie in goal for Marian. Offensively, Peterson led the Sabres with 12 shots, eight of which were on goal.
Marian has earned the sixth seed for the conference tournament and will travel to third-seeded MSOE Saturday, Oct. 27 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
