WAUKESHA, Wis. – Marian Univesity women’s lacrosse received 62 total votes to finish 10th in the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the head coaches of the league.

Hamline received 11 of the 14 first-place votes and 167 total points in the preseason poll and was picked as the favorite to win the conference.  The Pipers captured their second-consecutive regular-season title last year with a 13-0 record in conference play (19-2 overall) and earned a berth to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the third time with their third-straight MWLC Tournament title.

Aurora University was second in the poll with 153 points and the three remaining top votes, while Augsburg University and Illinois Tech tied for third with 138 points apiece.

Concordia University Wisconsin was selected fifth with 124 points, Concordia University Chicago was sixth with 102 and University of Northwestern-St. Paul was seventh with 78.

Wartburg College was eighth with 77 points, Cornell College was ninth with 64 points and Marian University 10th with 62.

Loras College was picked 11th with 60 points, Monmouth College 12th with 46 and Beloit College 13th with 41. Benedictine filled the final spot with 24 points.

The MWLC’s regular-season standings determine the teams that qualify for the six-team conference tournament, while the tournament champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA III Championship Tournament.

Marian is scheduled to host Clarke Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. to open the season.
