Marian University women’s hockey (2-7-2, 2-4-2 NCHA) defeated Finlandia 2-1 in overtime to secure their first NCHA sweep of the season.
After Finlandia opened the scoring in the first period, senior Hailey Miller netted her fourth goal of the season at the 7:15 mark of the second period to tie the game. Neither team would manage to light the lamp in the third period forcing overtime with the two teams combining for five penalty kills in the final regulation period.
In overtime, senior Natalie West was able to play the role of hero finding the back of the net at the 2:42 mark for her second goal of the year to secure the sweep. Sophomore Katie Meierotto and senior Jill Schneider each earned assists on the game-winner.
The Sabres once again dominated in shots finishing with a 45-19 advantage. In her second start of the season, sophomore Lindsay Lewison was able to earn her first victory of the year making 17 saves.
Marian closes out a non-conference series with UW-Stevens Point on the road Tuesday, December 4 at 7 p.m.
