Marian University women’s hockey (5-12-3, 4-7-2 NCHA) opened their series against Aurora with a convincing 4-1 victory.
A power play goal opened the scoring for the day when senior Jill Schneider lit the lamp for the second time this season with assists to sophomore Maegan Shuck and junior Hannah Koniar. The goal capped off a period that saw Marian outshoot Aurora 17-5.
Senior Natalie West then lit the lamp with her fourth goal of the season, assist to fellow senior Abbey Dokken at the 9:46 mark. Just 1:59 later, Aurora cut their deficit in half before senior Hailey Miller scored the game-winner. Her goal came on the power play at the 17:14 mark, her fifth of the season, with assists junior Morgan Bolin and senior Sheila Blower.
Koniar padded the lead with her fourth goal at the 16:07 mark, assist to Dokken only to have an Aurora goal with 1:09 left set the final at 4-2.
Marian closed out the game with a 34-24 advantage in shots with the Sabre power play scoring on both of their opportunities. Senior Lindsey Strainis (4-11-3) posted 22 saves in the win including a 10-save third period.
Marian closes out the series with Aurora tomorrow, Sunday, February 3, at 1 p.m. from Blue Line.
