Marian women’s hockey 2017-18 schedule released

August 25, 2017

The Marian University women’s hockey announced their 2017-18 schedule featuring competition from three new NCHA members.

“I’m really looking forward to this upcoming season,” commented head women’s hockey coach Jamie Kivi.  “We’re going to be a young team but our incoming class should provide us with more depth and skill than in years past.  The non-conference start to our season should be a good test for us before we start our conference schedule.”

The Sabres open on the road at Saint Mary’s (Minn.) and Augsburg to open the season Oct. 27-28.  Marian then opens NCHA play at home when they host St. Scholastica who finished one spot ahead of MU last season in the conference standings.  The series open Friday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. with the finale Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.  Another quality NCHA opponent follows as the Sabres travel to Concordia Wisconsin who the Sabres edged for the final NCHA Slaats Cup playoff spot.

MU makes a return to Blue Line when they welcome NCHA newcomer Trine Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.  Marian hits the road for a three game stretch where they will take on UW-Stevens Point Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in non-conference action before an NCHA series against Finlandia Dec. 1-2.  The Sabres close out the first half of the season against non-conference opponent UW-Eau Claire Saturday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. from Blue Line.

Marian opens the second half of the season with their final three non-conference tilts taking on Hamline Jan. 5, Saint Benedict Jan. 6, both on the road, and UW-Stevens Point at home Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m.

The Sabres welcome St. Norbert to Blue Line to open the second half of the NCHA schedule Jan. 19-20 with puck drop at 5 p.m. for both games.  MU is then on the road for the next two series’ traveling to Lake Forest and newcomer Aurora before a four-game homestand to close out the regular season.

Marian opens the homestand against newcomer Northland February 10-11, 5 p.m. and noon puck drops respectively and closes out the regular season against Adrian who reached the NCAA National Championship game last season.  The Sabres and Bulldogs square off at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 to open the series and conclude the regular season Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.

“It will be interesting to see how things play out,” commented Kivi on the expansion of the NCHA.  “Going from seven to 10 NCHA members brings new challenges and some competition we aren’t used to seeing yet.”
