Marian University women’s basketball (3-10, 3-6 NACC) returned to the win column defeating IIT 78-48 in NACC action.
The Sabres had a strong first half on the defensive end of the court holding the Scarlet Hawks to nine points in the first quarter and only one field goal in the second quarter. The Marian offense also had a strong first quarter offensively with four three-pointers as the Sabres were able to take a 30-16 advantage into halftime.
Marian then took over the game offensively in the third quarter matching their total points from the first half to go ahead 60-32. The Sabres went on to shoot 10-15 (.667) from the field and 6-9 (.667) from beyond the arc in the quarter. Seven different Marian student-athletes would record a point in the quarter.
The final quarter was much more evenly matched but the Sabres were able to cruise to the 78-48 victory.
Marian forced 27 IIT turnovers in the victory which led to 25 points. Offensively, Marian hit double-digit three-pointers for only the second time this season with a season-high 14 triples.
The scoring was spread out evenly with 12 different Sabres recording at least one point. Freshman Madison Holdiman and senior Morgan Johnson each had a team-high 13 points, while junior Sheyanne Glorfield scored 12 points off the bench.
Marian travels to Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday, Jan. 18 for a 4:15 p.m. tip.
