Marian University winter commencement set for December 15

Marian University will hold its winter commencement on Friday, December 15.

The Commencement celebration will begin with the Nursing pinning ceremony at Holy Family Catholic Community Parish at 271 Fourth Street Way in Fond du Lac and the Education pinning ceremony at Dorcas Chapel on the Marian University campus, both at 4:00 p.m. The graduation ceremony will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the Sadoff Gymnasium. All graduates and guests are invited to a reception following the ceremony in the Stayer Center Dining Room and Atrium.

Ave M. Bie will serve as the commencement speaker. Ave M. Bie is a business law and energy attorney with the national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP where she serves as the managing partner of the Madison office. She has spent her career counseling state and local governments and advising utilities and independent energy producers on critical infrastructure, strategy and long-range planning. She is honored to have served three Wisconsin governors in a variety of cabinet positions from the Department of Regulation and Licensing to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, as well as Chairwoman of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission. In her 30 plus years of leadership roles, she has become nationally recognized for her unique policy initiatives and her pragmatic and passionate approach to problem solving and advocacy solutions that serve the public interest.

In addition to her professional positions she is recognized for her civic and philanthropic service to the following organizations: United Way of Dane County;      St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation; Edgewood High School Board of Directors; Inaugural Chair of the Sinsinawa Sponsor Council; and Badger Institute. Currently, she serves on the NFL Green Bay Packers Board of Directors. As a Green Bay native, Ave and her husband live in Madison, Wisconsin and are the proud parents of two adult children.

Bie earned her B.A degree in business administration, cum laude, at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and her J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Rachael Hill will serve as the student commencement speaker. She is a candidate for a Master of Science in Thanatology degree and is from Elk River, Minnesota.
