Marian University to host leadership and racial diversity presentation

  FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Marian University’s Social Justice Committee will be hosting the “Leadership and Racial Diversity” presentation on Wednesday, November 13 at 1:25 p.m. in the Stayer Center room 217/218. 

The presentation will feature the experiences of keynote speaker Barbara Nichols. Nichols was the first Afro-American president of the American Nurses Association and the Wisconsin Nurses Association. Nichols has worked for social justice in health care services, education and professional organizations around the globe for the past 40 years. 

Nichols earned a master’s degree with a thesis entitled “Attitudes of Professionals Working with Mental Retardates in Federal Government” in 1973. She was a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1963 and has received five honorary doctorates since 1979. Nichols has demonstrated achievements in complex organizations and political environments internationally and throughout the United States advocating for social justice.
