Marian University student, Lillie Lee, received the Phyllis Gray Memorial Scholarship through the Educational Opportunity Association. This $1,000 scholarship is offered to students participating in the TRIO-Student Support within Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Lee was selected as the semi-finalist from Wisconsin and selected from ten semi-finalists as the scholarship recipient. Students who are considered for this scholarship must be nominated by a TRIO staff member and meet criteria with an emphasis on commitment to community service.
Lee is an elementary/middle and special education major with a Spanish minor. She enjoys volunteering with the Salvation Army and Hmong organizations, and she works as a Resident Assistant at Marian. She also participates in Model UN, Art Club, and the Marian Student Education Association.
“Lillie is very deserving of this scholarship as she is a shining example of purpose and passion to having a positive impact on her community,” said Alex Kurowski, TRIO-SSS academic success coordinator. “She consciously puts others first with positivity and humility in her roles as a TRIO Peer Leader, a Resident Assistant, and in a variety of clubs and organizations on campus. Lillie is the person you hope to have on your team because she will raise important questions and challenge the group with the objective of making everyone stronger.”
