Marian University sophomore Sarah Mereness has been elected to the Wisconsin Student Nurses Association (WSNA) Board and will serve as its Communications Director.

Mereness was one of five students representing the Marian University Student Nurses’ Association (MUSNA) at the 71st annual Convention of the WSNA, held Feb. 7–9 in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

The convention gives students an opportunity to network with other Wisconsin nursing students, to speak with potential employers, to participate in the business of the organization and to attend educational focus sessions on a wide variety of nursing topics.

Students also have an opportunity to present resolutions to the WSNA Board to support or oppose an issue, allowing for WSNA to then present the resolution to the National Student Nurses Association.

Senior Alex Rink submitted the resolution “Reaffirmation of the Resolution of 2003: Addressing the recruitment of Men into the Nursing Profession” to support and promote the recruitment of males into the profession and help enhance diversity in nursing.

“It was a perfect example of our students’ dedication to fulfilling Marian’s values of service and learning,” said Assistant Professor Breana Sutfin, who co-advises MUSNA with fellow Assistant Professor Melissa Zar. “We are so proud of the work and dedication these students put forth as members of this organization.”
