Marian University Graphic Arts professor Tom Wallestad will virtually discuss “The Comics Medium and ‘Good Talk’” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, on the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/FDLPL.
Registration is required and starts today at fdlpl.org by clicking on Calendar.
Having taught comic art and animation for more than 20 years, Wallestad will address the unique aspects of the comics medium and its continuing evolution. He will also discuss why Mira Jacob, author and illustrator of “Good Talk: A Memoir in Conversations,” might have chosen to tell her story the way she did and why it’s received such wide acclaim.
Copies of the 2019 best-seller are available for check out at the Main Desk on the first floor of the Fond du Lac Public Library. The graphic memoir was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award, longlisted for the PEN Open Book Award, named a New York Times Notable Book, and Book of the Year by Time, Esquire, Publisher’s Weekly and Library Journal.
Wallestad has headed efforts resulting in Marian University being ranked fourth on the list of Best Wisconsin Graphic Design Colleges, according to Game Designing, as well as having each graduate of the Graphic Arts program being employed within six months of graduation. The event will lead into Marian University offering fall courses in “Comix & The Graphic Novel: Fact & Fiction,” as well as “Computer Animation” in the Spring, which will include traditional character animation.
