Marian to host saxophone quartet and steel drum band concert, Nov. 24

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian University Music Department will present a Saxophone Quartet and Steel Drum Band concert in the Hornung Student Center on the campus of Marian University, on Monday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m.

The Steel Drum Band will be playing selections to include “Pan For Ya” by Tracy Thornton, and an arrangement of “We Three Kings” done by Ben Reehl of Mayville.  Reehl is a retired band director from Mayville High School and still directs his own steel band. Scott Elford, adjunct instructor of percussion at Marian University, coaches the steel drum band.

The saxophone quartet will be performing several selections including two pieces originally written for solo piano. The first is Ragtime Suite that includes “Pan-Am Rag,” “Something Doing” and “The Cascades.” The other solo piano piece is by George Gershwin entitled “Three Preludes.” The quartet will also perform a piece by Rick Hirsch called “Paquito de Habana” written in tribute to the great jazz saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera.  Dr. Brian Lydeen, associate professor of Music at Marian, and director of Bands & Jazz Studies coaches the saxophone quartet.
