Marian to host Jazz Studies concert, April 9

  FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Marian University’s Jazz Studies Department will be hosting the Little Big Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble spring concerts on Thursday, April 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the THELMA Sadoff Center for the Arts, 51 Sheboygan Street in Fond du Lac.

The Little Big Band, directed by Dr. Brian Lydeen, director of bands and jazz studies, will be performing a section from the Beatles, “Here, There, and Everywhere” featuring Alex Skinner on the tenor saxophone.  In addition, the band will be performing the music of jazz greats, including Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane and Duke Ellington.  

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by David Hein, assistant professor of music, will be performing selections to include arrangements of “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, “Rainy Days and Mondays” by the Carpenters, “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles and an arrangement of the traditional folk song “Scarborough Fair.”
